Committees

Throughout the early years our Club demonstrated a vital interest in community welfare. We joined with other organizations in promoting such community projects as a new high school, the Municipal Hospital and the first bridge over the Delaware River in this metropolitan area. We also did our part in the First World War by establishing the Rotary Club ofr servicemen, which was located along the walkway near the Pennsylvania Ferry. The Camden County Coucil for the Boy Scouts came into being in 1917 under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Camden. All funds for the Council were raised by the club members until 1942 when the Scout council became a member of the community Chest.
Other projects have included the planting of trees, sponsoring a patient room in Cooper Medical center, supporting the ronald McDonald House, and participating on numerous boards of the major health and welfare agencies.

Rotary started when a group of men decided to meet for lunch each day and our Club followed this tradition for many years by establishing the Rotary Round Table in a special room at the old Walt Whitman Hotel. This effective fellowship would be one of the outstanding events of the day.
Our Club was one of the many that offered a resolution for proposing open membership for ALL persons. It was our privilege to welcome our first female member in 1987, Billee Stallings.

The Camden Rotaryparticipates in various aspects of International Service. Over the last few years members have been the team leaders for Group Study Exchange teams to Nigeria, Argentina, and the Philippines.
The Club supports the Rotary Foundation through Polio Plus, disaster relief and honoring distinguished members of the community with Paul Harris Fellowships.
